Oh, I see, in the US the math delivery program for the schools is probably not so rigid. We have a problem with delivering traditional math that starts with Algebra.
September 27
As a computer engineer, I understand what you mean. Still, the traditional math is the MATH. Everything is emerging from it. I can develop a new theory computional or other based on math essentials.
September 27
I agree with you. I am learning and teaching computational math. It is certainly different from our regular skill and drill math, problem solving , visualization and modeling and algebraic ideas.
September 26
I do believe that Math is a key for technology.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math How do we Develop Innovators Using Education ?

This was a presentation to the National Science Board of the US , at the NSF.( National Science Foundation

Though many current Federal initiatives focus on raising the base-line performance of all students, very few focus on the educational needs of our Nation's highly talented and/or highly motivated students. If properly identified and developed through the education system, these students have the extraordinary potential to become future science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM)… Continue

I want to introduce you to a mentor of mine Dr. Chris Dede, who is now at Harvard - Teacher Professional Development

I am sure I was a total pain at the Monterrey Summit because every time someone blamed a teacher I talked back. Teachers do not build the infrastructure. Teachers do not on their own usually decide curriculum. Ministers of education make the big decisions even here. Professional Development is usually a terrible waste of time as there are in house people who do the developing. Who is going to tell them the truth and survive with their job. So I hope you will read, re-read and think about this ar… Continue

Education Topic in Monterrey

We have made some progress in the education section here in Monterrey,Mexico. I don't have time to post it now.
The event is on line. Lots of meetings, and lots of valuable networking. Interesting is that lots of the talk is that teachers were responsible for the problem, but I fought back with the fact that the digital divide, the information divide, the infrastructure divide, the economic divide, the cultural divide, the differences in culture. I did not let anyone get away with blaming the te… Continue

The Internet is entering an exciting, third phase, as important as its second phase, the World Wide Web. Thanks to paradigms for distributed computing such as Web 2.0, Web Services, and Software as a Service, the Internet is becoming a platform for computing as well as communications. This new platform, the Cloud (… Continue

What about International Case Studies of Things that Work? Epals, I@Earn, Kidlink, Global Schoolnet.. etc

We have a new Initiative called engaging the Digital Generation that was introduced to America by Dr. Milton Chen, profiles and highlights from multimedia profiles of 10 your people who use digital media for learning and socializing , giving educators insights into new strategies for engagement.

Teaching our children is surely one of humanity's earliest and most fundamental pursuits, and today it's fair to say that education, not Esperanto, is the universal language. We educate for various reas… Continue

Bonnie,

Obama is pushing for all Americans to get involved in education, but we need a complete remake for how we approach lifelong learning at all levels.

Please share my input documented at http://lone-eagles.com/miba2009.htm and particularly http://lone-eagles.com/yeswecan.htm

http://www.pbs.org/publicinput is an interesting solicitation for input, and I posted a long comment.

Keep after it!

Hey Bonnie,
I am glad our paths crossed. In addition to my interest in ICT and TPL (http://thirdplacelearning.ning.com/) I teach elementary teachers how to teach mathematics - one of my daily duties - and I enjoy good food (global gourmet poked my curiosity)! Stay in touch and let me know if TPL-ers can do anything for you :-)

Certainly, you are going to be needed in Africa. We are currently developing national manpower strategy on anti-cybercrime and cybersecurity via the 1st cyber-bootcamp for govt and industries.

We have techies and policy crafters but certainly not on online safety and security for kids. I hope when invitation is sent to you to come to Nigeria to help facilitate capacity building on online child safety, you'll honour it.
